London-based director Ruth Hogben is the most electrifying force in fashion on film in the world today, pushing the boundaries of what’s technically possible both in-camera and inside the edit suite. She collaborates on a regular basis with art director Simon Costin and artist Matthew Stone and has created arresting short films with Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh and Alexander McQueen, adding new dimensions to the traditional catwalk presentation for the digital age.
Hogben assisted world renowned fashion photographer Nick Knight from 2005-2009, both as his first photographic assistant and as editor of his film work for SHOWstudio. In 2009 she won the Jury Prize at the A Shaded View on Fashion Film Festival.
She is now one of the most in-demand filmmakers in the world of fashion and advertising, represented by Art + Commerce, and working with Louis Vuitton, Barneys, MAC Cosmetics and Selfridges. Some of her most recent projects include contributions to the Met show in New York: Punk, Chaos and Couture, a London Fashion Week collaboration with Nick Knight for Philip Treacy (styled by Katy England, using iconic items from Michael Jackson’s stage wardrobe) and a North African-themed film for London-based Indian designer Salon Lodha.
Last year she contributed several works to an installation at the old Selfridges Hotel in London, including a short film of Gareth Pugh recreating Liza Minnelli’s celebrated Bob Fosse routine from Cabaret.
Ruth Hogben’s work is graphic and provocative, but always beautiful.
